Makan commenced his legal career in 2007 as an inhouse solicitor representing the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Industry and Resources at that time. Since then, Makan has also practised law at firms ranging from boutique and mid-sized firms to a top tier national firm.

Makan practises primarily in areas of commercial litigation, insolvency law, personal bankruptcies and general commercial law. Makan has extensive experience in drafting pleadings, submissions and other court documents and has appeared as counsel in interlocutory and final hearings in jurisdictions, including the Supreme Court of Western Australia, District Court of Western Australia, and Federal Court of Australia (WA and QLD registries).

Makan’s experience includes a major litigation between an international mining company and the WA State government and a major arbitration between an international mining company and an Australian energy company. He has also represented various clients in relation to contractual disputes and misleading and deceptive conduct claims, including disputes between directors and shareholders and litigation resulting from failed corporate acquisitions.

Makan’s insolvency experience includes advising receivers, administrators and liquidators in relation to their rights and obligations, including recovering amounts pursuant to voidable transactions provisions of the Corporations Act. Makan has also represented corporate and individual clients in defending claims made by liquidators and negotiating settlements when appropriate.
